Synopsis:
KARAKAT unfolds through the observing eyes of a karakat driver carrying fishermen across the frozen surface of Lake Peipsi. Each morning follows the same quiet cycle – entering the ice, crossing it, returning. The driver exists within this repetition, guided by the route and the steady engine hum beneath him.
As the journey advances, the fishermen, having started on a playful note, experience a shift. Once on ice, something changes: sound thins, distances open and the landscape turns transcendental. Lightness fades into focus as the crossing draws its passengers inward. A different silence settles.
The driver turns back alone. The hum resumes, unchanged. What has passed lingers only briefly before it repeats – the surface opening once more, the passage ready to begin again.
